The colon is a large organ also referred to as the large intestine, it plays a major role in the wellbeing of your body system. The main purpose of the colon is to remove the waste matter [faeces] from your body, also, when the colon is healthy and functioning properly; it extracts nutrients from the foods that are ingested which are then absorbed into the body.
A healthy colon is very important because a dysfunctional colon can cause many problems associated with the intestinal system: Crohn’s Disease, Constipation, Hemorrhoids, Colitis, Chronic Diarrhea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Please take note; that a healthy diet will go a very long way to easing, even as a cure to the conditions above.
A healthy diet for your colon would be a diet rich in high fibre [fiber]: Beans, Whole breads…Whole Meal, Whole Grain, Whole Wheat, Fruit and Vegetables. Fibre is found in all natural foods.
A bad diet would consist of processed foods, because processed foods have been stripped of all their fibre, unfortunately, there are many processed foods around today because the manufacturers are able to achieve a longer shelf life for their produce.
Many people lead hectic lifestyles, resulting in greater numbers consuming fast processed foods that lead to obesity. When you consider that processed foods are harder to digest the need to cleanse the colon has never been greater. Indigestion, depression, headaches, acne, allergies, constant fatigue, hyper activity or nervousness are symptoms of a toxic bowel.
Over time waste matter builds up on the walls of the colon and this can lead to clogging of the colon, another reason for a good diet is to help keep the colon clear of debris which will greatly ease the natural process of healthy bowel movements a few times a day dependant on your food consumption.
You can see if your colon is performing properly and healthy, or if you need to cleanse the colon. Your bowel movements should be long and about one and a half to two and a half inches thick, if your bowel movements are in small pieces or like a ribbon that would indicate that your colon was clogged.
In summary, if you need to detoxify and cleanse the colon you should see clearer skin, feel less tired and bloated, reduced constipation and abdominal pain, weight loss and a general feeling of rejuvenation.
It is not recommended to cleanse the colon using some of the harsh products that are available.
If you clean your colon gently, the body will be able to keep the good bacteria that is produced in a healthy colon.
